Fellas,
I’ve only downloaded two episodes, but I like your show so far.
Anyway, here’s to dispelling those Scouting “myths”. I think that if Scouters could take a few moments to read more of BSA’s published material (leader’s guides, program info, etc.), a lot of myth’s would be busted in short order. There’s nothing more frustrating to me as a pack committee chairman than some of the myths out there that are unneccesarily restricting the Scouting program. Your discussion on locking pocket knives is a case in point. There is nothing in GSS that prohibits them. Indeed, a look at the most recent BSA Supply Division catalog and Scoutstuff.org shows a handful of brand new lockback knives for sale! I’ve got to believe that one hand is talking to the other here. Similarly, I think you’re spot on with the whole “no hats indoors” issue. I have to be conscious of my (and many of my pack’s parents) ingrained habit as active duty Navy to remove my “cover” indoors.
I don’t know that your computer setup/bandwidth will allow it while you’re doing your show, but if one of the hosts could be searching online for official subject matter related to a question at hand (ex. like checking out what GSS says) or thumbing through the Cub Scout Leaders Book, you’d provide even better info than you are now. Time and a fluid discussion may prohibit it, but nevertheless an idea I wanted to throw at you.
Keep up the good service and good luck at Wood Badge.
